Ozone Therapy at Bloom Functional Medicine
Safe. Natural. Regenerative.
Ozone therapy is a powerful, evidence-informed treatment that uses medical-grade ozone (O₃) to promote healing, reduce inflammation, fight infections, and enhance oxygen delivery throughout the body. At Bloom Functional Medicine, we offer a comprehensive range of ozone treatments—including IV ozone, insufflation, sinus therapy, and prolozone injections—tailored to support your unique health goals.
Note: IV and Ozone is ONLY available to current patients of Dr. Worden.
Why Ozone Therapy?
Ozone has been used therapeutically for over a century and is supported by a growing body of research. It can:
-
Activate antioxidant pathways and reduce oxidative stress
-
Improve oxygen utilization and mitochondrial energy production
-
Enhance detoxification and liver function
-
Regulate the immune system (up or down, depending on your needs)
-
Destroy bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, and biofilms
-
Reduce pain and stimulate tissue regeneration
-
Support healing from chronic infections, mold toxicity, and post-viral syndromes
Conditions That May Benefit from Ozone Therapy
-
Chronic fatigue or post-COVID syndrome
-
Autoimmune conditions and MCAS
-
Lyme disease and coinfections
-
Mold-related illness (CIRS)
-
Chronic pain, joint degeneration, and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
-
Gut dysbiosis and IBS
-
Headaches, migraines, and sinus congestion
-

Types of Ozone Treatment that we offer
IV Ozone (Major Autohemotherapy) Your blood is drawn, mixed with ozone, and then returned to your body through the same IV. This stimulates immune modulation, detoxification, and improved oxygen utilization. Ideal for: fatigue, infections, mold/CIRS, MCAS, autoimmune issues.
Rectal and Vaginal Insufflation Ozone gas is gently introduced into the rectum or vagina to support systemic and local healing. These methods are excellent alternatives to IV ozone, especially for gut and pelvic support. Ideal for: GI inflammation, detoxification, liver support, recurrent vaginal infections.
Sinus Insufflation Ozone is carefully introduced into the sinuses using a catheter and syringe through the nasal passages. Ideal for: chronic sinusitis, mold exposure, nasal congestion, and recurrent upper respiratory infections.
Prolozone Injections A regenerative therapy combining ozone with nutrients and homeopathics. Injected into joints, ligaments, or trigger points, it promotes tissue repair and reduces pain. Ideal for: arthritis, back pain, joint instability, EDS-related pain, and injuries.
FAQ's about Ozone
Is ozone therapy safe? Yes. When performed by trained professionals using medical-grade equipment, ozone therapy is very safe. It has been used for decades in Europe and integrative medical practices worldwide. How does ozone help the immune system? Ozone has immune-modulating effects. It can calm an overactive immune system (as in autoimmune disease or MCAS) or stimulate an underactive one (as in chronic infections or fatigue). What does ozone therapy feel like? Most patients tolerate ozone therapy well. IV ozone may cause a sense of warmth or clarity. Insufflation therapies are generally gentle. Some people experience mild fatigue or detox symptoms after treatment. How quickly will I feel better? Some patients report feeling better immediately while others report feeling better 1-2 days after treatment. Please know the ozonides from ozone therapy can persist in the body for 7-10 days, so there are on-going health benefits days after treatment. The benefits of ozone therapy are cumulative, so each additional treatment builds upon the prior treatment and treatment benefit typically lasts longer. How many treatments will I need? It depends on your condition. Acute issues may respond in 1–3 sessions. Chronic conditions often benefit from a series of treatments over several weeks or months. Can I do ozone therapy if I’m on other treatments? Yes. Ozone can be safely combined with other therapies, including antibiotics, supplements, IV nutrients, and detox protocols. What are the side effects of ozone therapy? Side effects are rare when administered properly. Occasionally, patients may experience mild detox symptoms, slight cramping (with rectal insufflation), or transient fatigue. Is sinus insufflation safe? Yes. When done correctly with humidified ozone and proper technique, sinus insufflation is well tolerated and effective for addressing chronic sinus and mold-related issues. Yes! Ozone therapy is a well-researched, highly effective treatment that addresses root causes of illness with minimal safety risks. It has been extensively studied, with over 2,000 published medical papers supporting its benefits. For more than a century, ozone therapy has been safely and successfully used across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. In the United States, pioneers like Dr. Frank Shallenberger, Dr. Robert Rowen, and the American Academy of Ozonotherapy (AAOT) have advanced this field. Are their side effects from IV ozone therapy? The degree of side effects varies depending on the patient’s individual health, the dose of ozone administered, and the severity of their condition. For example, patients with long-standing chronic illnesses like Long COVID or Lyme disease may experience a “healing reaction” (also known as a Herxheimer reaction or “herx”). This occurs when the immune system is stimulated, detox pathways are activated, and infections begin to die off. As a result, some patients may feel more fatigued immediately after treatment as the body prioritizes healing and recovery. Other potential side effects may include: General IV-related effects such as transient low blood sugar, headache, lightheadedness, local swelling, bruising, or irritation at the catheter insertion site A temporary shift in the menstrual cycle Slight hemolysis (which may cause brownish or reddish urine) To minimize side effects, consider: Staying well-hydrated Getting adequate rest Taking an Epsom salt bath, using a sauna, or doing a cold plunge Using anti-inflammatory supplements or medications as needed Eating a nutrient-dense meal with protein and healthy fats while limiting processed foods and sugars If you experience any side effects, be sure to inform your doctor so they can provide appropriate guidance.
